Emma directed, filmed, and edited this short film for “Embody the Myth”, her final project in her first-year studio course at Parsons. The goal of the project was to reinterpret a story or myth and devise a new version through their imaginations.
Emma created a video that showcased the obvious underlying darkness of Alice in Wonderland. She focused on children’s over-trusting and naive ways, and the notion that curiosity can get you into dangerous trouble. She gave the original story a twist and touched upon the element of mental illness, a topic that is often correlated with the Alice in Wonderland characters.
Emma chose to focus more deeply on the visuals than on the plot, and to stray from the colorful and psychedelic scenery that the original movie is characterized by. Instead, Emma created her video with a darker and more realistic approach to the trouble that Alice gets herself into.
